Apollo alternatives for local businesses: six tools compared by need

Apollo.io is built for named buyers at larger companies. If you sell to shops, trades, restaurants, clinics and agencies, these six alternatives fit better. Each explained by need, plus when Apollo still wins.

Apollo.io is a very good tool for one job: finding a named person at a company large enough to have job titles, a tech stack and a headcount worth filtering on. If your buyers look like that, you may not need an alternative at all, and a section below says so plainly.

Most people who type "Apollo alternative" into a search engine sell to local and small businesses: shops, trades, restaurants, clinics, salons, garages, small agencies. Those businesses are rarely in a professional contact database, the owner is the decision maker, and the "company" is a shopfront on a map. A seat on a people database is the wrong shape for that work. This article compares six alternatives that fit: Outscraper, Scrap.io, D7 Lead Finder, Leadralia, Hunter.io and Apify's Google Maps Scraper. Five appear in the tables; Apify is described in text because it assumes a developer.

Why a people database struggles with local buyers

A people database is assembled from professional profiles, company websites and job changes. A two-person plumbing firm leaves little of that footprint, so it is often missing, out of date, or listed without a usable contact. Its unit is a person with a job title; the unit you need for a local business is the business itself: where it is, whether it is open, its phone, its website, its rating, the email it publishes.

The pricing shape is the third mismatch. Apollo bundles a seat with a yearly credit allowance, and unused credits expire with each billing cycle. Local outreach is lumpy: one territory this month, another next quarter. The alternatives below start from the map, or from a keyword and a place, and most charge for what you take out rather than for a seat.

Note. None of the four map-based or list-based tools gives you a named decision maker. For a local business that is usually fine: the address on the shop door is the owner's address. If your deal needs a specific person at a 300-person company, Hunter.io or Apollo itself can find one.

Checked on Apollo, Outscraper, Scrap.io, D7 Lead Finder, Hunter and Apify. Apollo, Outscraper and Apify publish in US dollars, the others in euro.

Outscraper: raw map records, paid per thousand

Outscraper is data as a service. Type a query such as "dentists, Antwerp", choose the fields, download the records. There is no monthly fee: the first 500 records of each service are free, then $3 per 1,000 records up to 100,000 and $1 per 1,000 after that. Email is a separate service, $3 per 1,000 domains after a free 500, and the verifier costs $3 per 1,000 addresses after the first 25. Sending is not part of the product.

Choose it when you want the cheapest raw record and you have somewhere to put it. Weak when you want to contact the businesses today, or you want the opt-out and removal handling done for you.

Scrap.io: map data with filters, on a plan

Scrap.io extracts business data from Google Maps, Apple Maps and Bing Maps across 195 countries and 4,000+ categories. Its strength is the filtering: businesses with a website, with an email, with a phone, with a rating between two values, with a Facebook or Instagram page. You can draw a polygon or a radius, run a reverse search by phone or domain, and enrich a CSV. API access is on every plan.

Pricing is a subscription with export credits: Basic €49 a month (€35 billed yearly) for 10,000 exports, Professional €99 (€69) for 20,000, Agency €199 (€139) for 40,000, Company €499 (€350) for 100,000. The free trial is 7 days and up to 100 leads. Data refresh and email verification are not published.

Choose it when you run campaigns every month and want to slice map data by signals such as "has a website but no email". Weak when your volume is irregular, because unused exports are a cost, and when you need writing, sending or a replies inbox.

D7 Lead Finder: keyword, city, list

D7 Lead Finder is the simplest of the five. Enter a keyword and a location, wait a few minutes, download a list with business name, website, email, phone, postal address and social links. Higher plans add signals marketing agencies care about: paid ads on Facebook, Instagram or Yelp, an installed Facebook or Google pixel, review scores, mobile-friendliness.

Plans are month to month with a daily quota: Starter 10 searches a day, Agency 30, Professional 100 with five sub-accounts. The price loads only inside the signup page, so we do not quote one; five basic searches a day are free but not exportable. Data sources, freshness and email validation details are not published.

Choose it when you sell websites, advertising or SEO to local businesses and the ad signals are your qualification. Weak when you need complete coverage of an area, addresses verified before a send, or any outreach inside the tool.

Leadralia: the list, the verified email and the first message in one place

Leadralia starts from the same question, a type of business and an area, and then finishes the job. A search sweeps the exact area on the map, in any of 195 countries down to a single street, and returns every matching business with name, address, phone, website, rating and reviews. There is no stored list: each search reads the map at that moment, so a clinic that opened last month is in the results and one that closed is not.

The email is found on the business's own website and verified for €0.00 before it can be used. The built-in AI writes a personal first message from one sentence about your offer, you approve every word, and the exact audience and cost are on screen before anything is sent. Mail leaves from your own Gmail, Outlook or SMTP mailbox, your own domain, or a ready sending address Leadralia sets up for you; replies land in an inbox inside the product. Leads carry a status, a note and a follow-up date, export to Excel or CSV, and a REST API with keys covers searches, leads, enrichment and campaigns.

Prices are per result from a wallet topped up from €5: €0.02 per business found, €0.00 for its verified email, €0.05 per email sent (refunded if the send fails), €0.02 to reveal an address for use elsewhere. A business you already have is €0.00 forever, and every search has a spending limit you set. The free tier is 25 searches and 25 sends a month, no card; optional plans run from €19 to €299 a month. A "we do it for you" package does the search, the emails, the message in your name and the sending: 100 businesses for €15, 500 for €49, 1,200 for €100, out within one or two business days.

Choose it when you want to find local businesses and write to them without stitching four tools together, paid per result. Weak when you need named decision makers, LinkedIn data, firmographics, multi-step sequences with conditions, a dialer, a Chrome extension or a CRM connector: Leadralia has none of those. The full walkthrough is in what Leadralia does.

Hunter.io: the right person at a company you can already name

Hunter is the closest of the six to Apollo, and it is here for a reason: it is the tool once you know the companies. Domain Search takes a company name or website and returns the people there with job titles and verified addresses; Email Finder takes a name and a company; Sequences sends from your connected mailboxes. Discover builds company lists from industry, location, headcount, technology and keyword filters.

Plans are in euro: a Free plan with 50 credits a month; Starter €49 a month (€34 billed yearly) for 2,000 credits with auto-verification; Growth €149 (€104) for 10,000 credits and 10 connected mailboxes; Scale €299 (€209) for 25,000 credits.

Choose it when your local targets have a real web footprint and you want the owner's named address rather than info@. Weak when the business has no website or only a contact form: Hunter's index is built from the public web, so a business that exists only on the map stays out of reach, and you cannot ask it for "every business in this district".

Apify's Google Maps Scraper: for teams with a developer

Apify is a platform for running scrapers, called Actors. Its most used Google Maps Actor is priced from $1.50 per 1,000 scraped places, with optional steps for business emails from the website and an email verification add-on at its own price. Apify's free plan carries $5 of monthly usage with no card; Starter is $19 a month.

It stays out of the tables because it is not a finished product. You configure the Actor, run it, and own the output: deduplication, the email hit rate, the sending tool, the opt-out list. With an engineer, it is the most flexible option here and the cheapest per raw place. Without one, it is a project standing between you and your first email.

When Apollo is still the right choice

Apollo is the better tool when your buyers are companies with org charts and the name and title of the person decide whether the message lands; when you filter on what a map cannot supply, such as headcount, funding, technology or intent signals; when your team lives in sequences, a dialer and a CRM sync and has several seats to fill; and when you work the same accounts all year, so a yearly credit allowance is spent rather than wasted. Apollo describes its database as 240M contacts and 30M companies, and it is built for exactly that work.

The Free plan at $0 with 900 credits a year is a real way to test it. On annual billing, Basic is $49 per user per month with 30,000 credits a year, Professional $79 with 48,000, Organization $119 with 72,000 and a three-user minimum. Monthly billing costs more; Apollo does not publish those rates on the pages we checked. A verified email typically costs one credit; mobile numbers consume several.

Note. The split is not "Apollo or an alternative". Many teams run Apollo for the named accounts and a map-based tool for the long tail of local businesses, because the two overlap far less than their feature lists suggest.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free Apollo alternative for local leads?

Partly. Outscraper gives the first 500 records of each service free, Leadralia 25 searches and 25 email sends a month without a card, Hunter 50 credits a month, D7 five non-exportable searches a day, Scrap.io a 7-day trial of 100 leads. None is free at campaign volume, but each lets you test the data on your own street first.

Which alternative is the cheapest?

Per raw record, Apify ($1.50 per 1,000 places) and Outscraper ($3 per 1,000) win. Per contactable lead, add the email finder, the verifier and the sending tool to those numbers and compare with Leadralia's €0.02 plus €0.00 plus €0.05, or with a Scrap.io or Hunter plan at your real monthly volume.

Do these tools give me the owner's name?

The map-based tools give you the business and the address it publishes, usually a general or role address. Hunter and Apollo give you named people at companies with a web footprint. For a shop, a garage or a clinic, the published address is normally read by the owner; for a 200-person company, you want the name.

Bottom line

Choose Outscraper or Apify for raw map records at the lowest price, when you have somewhere to put them. Choose Scrap.io for filtered map data and an API on a monthly plan. Choose D7 Lead Finder when you sell marketing services to local businesses and the ad signals do your qualifying. Choose Hunter.io when you already know the companies and need the right person's verified address. Choose Leadralia when you want every business of a type in an area, a verified email for each, a message you approve and the sending in one product, paid per result. Choose Apollo when your buyers have job titles and your team has seats.

If your buyers have a shopfront, a clinic door or a van with a phone number on it, run one search for free and compare the list with what your current tool gives you. No card is needed, and the API docs are public.
